This is too hard. So many of us have to deal with the silence of God. The four hundred years reflect not an individual silence, but the space between the Jewish Bible and the New Testament. I don’t think God was silent. But it was a time of waiting. And waiting.
Not as long as Christians have been waiting for the return of the ‘Son of Man.’
Of course the Bible says that the whole of creation is waiting for the humans who belong to God to be revealed. Here’s an interesting take on that:
O Come O Come Immanuel instructs Israel to rejoice because the waiting is not forever. Here’s a country version, which is OK although they could do with smiling a bit!
