If the three wise men had a hovercar that could move at highway speed over land and water (it’s in the gnostic gospels somewhere) and decided to follow Venus, they’d take a particularly weird path

    Interestingly, the gospel account doesn’t actually say that they followed the star to Jerusalem. When they arrived in Jerusalem, their explanation was simply, ‘We saw his star when it rose [or ‘in the east’] and have come to worship him’.

    The closest it gets to them following the star is after they leave Jerusalem, where it says that, ‘the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was’, although it doesn’t say how far ahead of them, or whether they were following it or not. The next sentence – ‘When they saw the star, they were overjoyed’, even suggests they might not have been…
