Courage Trust

This is a link to Courage Trust, a Christian Charity that serves LGBT people both inside and outside the church.

Jeremy Marks, their director, will be visiting revive on Sunday 2nd March to share his own story as a gay Christian who started an ‘ex-gay’ ministry, only to change his views on sexuality and end up supporting the Equal Marriage act. There are lots of articles on the site if you would like to read about the organisation ahead of the meeting. If you would like to read material from an organisation that would uphold traditional teaching on sexuality, just google ‘True Freedom Trust’.

We met, we talked, we conquered… our agenda.

So revive met eight days ago to plan our future a bit.

We made a bunch of decisions, including changing our Sunday meeting schedule, doing more worship and planning our 21st birthday celebrations. If you are part of the revive family and would like to know how things went, just email Joelle at reviveleeds@gmail.com

Trees

Hey everyone, and welcome back to our summer-sleeping blog…

This Sunday at 3-6pm we are gathering at the Shaw’s woods north of Sheffield. PLEASE DRESS APPROPRIATELY! If the weather is really bad we will put the gazebo up, but expect to be out in the wilds nonetheless. BRING STOUT FOOTWEAR. And please bring things you can cook on a hot plate, as well will be eating our dinner there. James Shaw recommends bacon and sausages with bread and stuff, but we will be able to do veggie stuff too.

However, the main reason for being there is to pray for the place. We will be doing a mixture of ‘beating the bounds’ of the woods and a little bit of Forest Church stuff thinking about the onset of autumn (it’s the autumn equinox on the 21st). That will be optional, so if you want to bring friends to spend the afternoon adventuring that will be fine.

I’ve just spoken to James and he will be sharing about his vision for the place, and what he feels God is already doing.

So… should be a great day!

Much love,

Simon

For directions just google Soughley Lane, Sheffield S35 7DL. Just make sure you get the right Soughley Lane – it’s near Wortley, just off Finkle Street Lane.

Alternatively follow these instructions:-

From the South M1 north to jn 36. Turn left off slip road on A61 towards Sheffield on the Penistone Road. Follow instructions below from the north.

From the North M1 south to jn 36. Turn right off slip road on A61 towards Sheffield on the Penistone Road. After about a mile you hit a big roundabout (with a macdonalds on the right) take 3rd exit off the roundabout onto A616 towards Manchester. Travel for about 2 miles up hill and just as you crest the top of the hill and start to descend take the A629 exit for Wortley. It’s another slip road that takes you back on yourself. When you get to the T junction. Turn left (over the road you have just come off – A616), northwards, towards Wortley. After about 400 yards take a left after a stone building that looks a bit like a chapel down the hill onto Finkle Street Lane. Descend down Finkle Street Lane, down the hill into the valley for about half a mile. Immediately after you go under an old stone railway bridge take the first left onto Soughley Lane. Follow this down the hill until just before you reach a bridge over the river. The entrance to the woods is on the left before the bridge as in the picture in the link above.

This Thursday is Café Theologique, a great opportunity to explore those ideas that have been rattling around in your head for a while but it’s been too time-consuming, difficult or downright scary to give them the attention they deserve.

This time – sin!

Gattaca

Tonight we are watching a movie – Gattaca. It’s a sci-fi with meaning… a good one, and (as far as I can remember) no fighting robots. If you’d like to come, contact simon.hall@actionreflection.org.uk for details

Hi everyone!

Just to let you know that this Sunday (30th June) at 2pm we will be going for a walk, meeting at the entrance of Bolton Priory (the church at Bolton Abbey).

This will be a walk in which we follow the River Wharfe to The Strid, and enjoy the beauty around us and think about what it means to us. We will use the many different forms of water that we find on the journey to think about how we have experienced God in our life.

Children are most welcome – there will be an I Spy for younger children and the activities will all be around water, including washing, paddling and dropping a pebble in the river.

This is an open event and everyone is welcome. The organisers are Christians but all that is required is that you enjoy the countryside!Image
